Week #6 - Salton City - San Bernardino, CA Mission

Hey everyone, I have had an amazing week! I didn't find any one new, but those that we are teaching are progressing so well. It has been a wonderful experience. I have been able to see the gospel of Jesus Christ give people who have no hope, hope and peace. Also, several people I am teaching have now accepted baptismal dates. Our lessons with them have been powerful and you can see the spirit testifying of the truth of our message.

I know that the message that the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith and that the Church of Jesus Christ is Hus kingdom on the earth is true. I know that every part of that message is true because if it were not, the spirit would not testify of its truthfulness. This us because it is bold to claim that the gospel was restored through a modern prophet. It is even bolder to claim that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the kingdom of God. The boldest statement I share as a missionary is that Russell M. Nelson is a prophet of God called to be His mouthpiece in these latter days. A half-truth is a lie so the message I share as a missionary can only be true or false. I know it’s true. The spirit has testified to me that it is true and I have seen this truth transform lives and bring hope.

On a less serious note, I got to eat chicken feet at a member's house today. It was kind of gross at first, but once I got used to it, I enjoyed it. He also made me some great enchiladas.

Also, me and my companions are using as new strategy to find people. The strategy is called Bro. Peter Rock. We painted a white shirt and tie on a rock and are planning to give it to member families. The members who have the rock are also given a piece of laminated paper that have the following challenges:
1. Give away a Book of Mormon
2. Pray for missionary opportunities daily
3. Fast for missionary opportunities and that the Lord may prepare people to receive the gospel
4. Visit a friend that had gone through a life changing event (birth, death, moving, etc.)
5. Talk to someone about family history. (This works great if you have a weekly family history night) 6. Invite someone to church OR a family home evening with the local missionaries.

On the other hand the missionaries will:
1. Present the rock to the member family at the beginning of the week and teach them how to share the gospel in normal and natural ways.
2. Fast with the family for missionary opportunities and that the Lord may prepare people to receive the gospel
3. Work to find people to teach that live near where the member family that has the rock lives.
4. Have a dinner with the family at the end of the week where the missionaries can report on any people they find and the family can report any people they find.

This program can be adapted to the needs of the area, but I feel that this is a great way for the members and missionaries to work side by side. Love you guys!
