Week #32 - Fontana (Sierra Ward), San Bernardino, CA Mission

Image
Hey everyone, So this week I got a new companion. His name is Elder Squires and I'll be training him for the next transfer. He's adjusting to missionary life very well and is excited to do the work. We've been doing our best to talk to everyone and we've had a few successes. One miracle that happened this week was that we contacted an hermana that we had met on the street. When we passed by her house, her and her husband warmly welcomed us in and were very receptive to our message. We hope that they will continue to receive us. We also were able to visit a friend that we hadn't seen in a while and he was very happy to see us. We gave him a priesthood blessing and he felt the spirit powerfully. After that, he said, "You have a lot of power in your church." In my head I thought, "You're right. We have the power of God." It was so amazing to see that power in action. We also got a couple of new people from the Alder Elders because th...

Hey everyone! So sorry, but I forgot to send this last week so you'll get two emails this week. This week has been great but kind of slow. The highlights of this week us that we were able to find a man and his wife who are very humble and are open to receiving our message they're very friendly and we've been able to have several lessons with them this week. During one of them they said that they would love to be part of Christ's church if they found it and were certain that it was Christ's church. Our lessons with Matthew have also continued to go well. He loves learning and asked us a lot about the organization of the church. We went over the baptismal questions last Saturday night and he was so ready.  Another highlight of the week is that I got to meet some ward members that were from Peru. They were pretty awesome. It was nice to eat some Peruvian food again and they also gave us some treats that I used to eat while in Peru. It was pretty fun. The fat...

Week #30 - Fontana (Sierra Ward), San Bernardino, CA Mission

Hey Everyone! This week has been sort of a whirlwind and pretty busy. We had exchanges with the zone leaders and the I did exchanges with the Alder Elders so we have been doing a lot of coordination. The good thing is that as we have been able to talk to a lot of people and I have been able to become more comfortable with talking with people everywhere and in every place. The nice thing with talking with everyone is that we've found a lot more people willing to listen to our message. The only downside is that we've contacted people several times. The nice thing about that, however,  is that we get to know them better and while they may not be interested in our message now our multiple contacts may pique their curiosity. We also had several miracles occur. One of the people we have been trying to teach for the past few weeks was finally home and willing to hear us. He asked us about what after we die and we were able to show him using scriptures both in the Bible and the Bo...

Week #29 - Fontana (Sierra Ward), San Bernardino, CA, Mission

Hey everyone! Well this week has been most eventful. Sadly, my companion has been sick so we haven't been able to get out of the house a lot. Despite our challenges, however,  we have embraced talking to everyone and this week we talked to the most we've ever been able to do in this area. During New Years Eve we went out showing a video about New Years that the church made a few years back. It was quite effective and with one person we showed it to he almost cried.  Besides showing a video, we've also been practicing sharing the message of the restoration quickly and powerfully. It has helped me be a lot more comfortable with speaking to everyone we meet. I highly recommend it to all missionaries.  Not much else has been going on. One of the people on date to be baptized didn't come to church so we were kind of sad. However, he still has a great desire to be baptized and so we will continue to work with him. He's close though. Happy New Years ev...

Week # 28 - Fontana (Sierra Ward), San Bernardino, CA Mission

Hey everyone! Well, this week was a great week. I was kind of worried about tracting this week because with it being the holidays people aren't open to opening their doors. However, we prayed really hard and it turned out a lot better than I thought.  We came up with an idea that really worked. We had Books of Mormon that were gift wrapped and downloaded the video Samuel and the Star. Christmas Eve we were able to share the message with several people. Some people were interested and accepted Books of Mormon while others just talked to us. One of the people we talked to really was touched by our message. After watching the video, he started tearing up and said that every time he heard the Christmas story he always started crying. He then shared how this was his first Christmas alone and that he had been praying for God to send him someone Christmas Eve. The Spirit was very powerful and we gave him a Book of Mormon. It was a testimony to me that there are people waiting for ...
